Sarah + Ryan-Engagement Session
While it’s true that every session I get to be a part of is special to me, the fact of the matter is there are just some sessions in particular that are VERY special to me. This was one of those sessions. The reason being this was the engagement session for my sweet cousin Sarah, and her fiancé, Ryan.
To set the stage for this photoshoot, I would like to give you just a little bit of insight into Sarah’s personality. She has never been much of a romantic, and that’s ok! Not everyone is. The reason I feel like it’s important to mention this is because you will really want to try and cater as best as you can to your client’s personalities and make the session be about the couple, and less about your preferences. I’ll admit, I had a little bit of an advantage in this shoot since this is my cousin, after all, but that still doesn’t stop me from getting to know my other couples who come to me for engagements and weddings.
Ok, so going back to Sarah not being very romantic; she expressed her feelings to me prior to the photoshoot on how she felt that the vast majority of images on Pinterest or anywhere else on the internet were just too over the top for her and wasn’t what she was comfortable with. Luckily, I think I was able to accommodate to her preferences pretty well.
The Old Schoolhouse
I’m seriously so jealous that my cousins just have this type of venue at their disposal! Their grandparents on the other side of the family bought an old schoolhouse and completely refurbished it and it is GORGEOUS. I first learned about this little country gem when Sarah’s sister, Callie, got married back it July. The schoolhouse became our home base that wedding weekend; we used it for Callie’s bridal shower and to get ready the next day and keep the family all in one place when it was time to take pictures.
I love putting window light to work.
*Sigh* admittedly, this would be the engagement photo of my dreams, but the lighting and the old piano were just too good to pass up. I believe this piano has been in Sarah's family for many generations.
I need a cute red barn to use all the time!!
Ryan’s folks also have a very scenic farm, complete with country roads and beautiful scenery.
These were the images that almost didn’t happen. Sarah had told me before that she was wanting to do something like this, but when it came to the day of she almost changed her mind since it takes a bit of effort to get two horses saddled up. LUCKILY, I was able to talk her back in to going through with this idea, and I’m SO glad that I did.
But seriously, these are some of the most stunning images I have ever taken. How can you not love this conclusion to this set of images?
Put it On Paper
In my wedding packages, I offer a set where you can order custom invitations through me. Normally I would wait to post a blog where all of these elements come together, but since I’ll be in the wedding party for this wedding and not actually photographing it, I thought I would go ahead and show it off here. Sarah’s colors are going to be an emerald green with gold accents and neutral colors. There’s going to be a lot of greenery, and she wanted her invitation to reflect that. I’m already so excited for January 7th to be here!
I'm so blessed that I have family members that support what I do and choose to use my talents for their special occasions. I'm really glad that when it comes to things like this, I have something to offer and contribute to this memorable time in their lives.
