Darcy + Ben- An Elegant Reception

Even though this event was a wedding reception and not an actual wedding ceremony, it was still every bit as beautiful and romantic as any wedding day I’ve captured so far. I love small, intimate gatherings that are shared with family and close friends and I think there’s something magical about it.

Darcy and Ben were actually married in Hawaii on Valentine’s Day in an intimate ceremony that just included their immediate family. It’s not like you have to have an actual reason to get married in such a scenic location, but Darcy told me the reason they decided on getting married there was due to the fact that it was the best midpoint for their families. Her husband, Ben, is from Australia!

This couple’s story is nothing short of a modern-day romance. Darcy and Ben first met when they were both working summers at a ranch in Colorado. They parted ways after working 4 summers together and didn’t reconnect again until 8 years later when Darcy decided she was going to travel to Australia and met Ben while she was visiting. Needless to say, some magic must have been in the air to bring together two people from two different continents together again so they could fall in love after so many years apart!

Standing on the balcony overlooking the foyer of the Brown Mansion in Coffeyville, Kansas, the couple recited their beautifully written vows they wrote and read to each other in Hawaii in front of the bride’s family and hometown friends followed by heartfelt champagne toasts from the bride and groom’s parents.

Though it was a small gathering, this party was not lacking in beautiful details! All the delicious desserts were made by Kache Cupcakes, and the Grazing Table was lavishly decorated by Becky Campbell from Sunflower Soda Fountain. The bar was thoughtfully set up in the conservatory of the mansion, which is my favorite room of the house! I also loved the polaroid guestbook and the cute little custom cross-stitch of the bride and groom and their pets!

Even from the other side of the globe, I’m so glad that Darcy and Ben were able to have the ceremony of their dreams and also have the opportunity to celebrate with Darcy’s loved ones here in the states. Wishing you both the best in this next chapter of your adventure across the pond!
