Changes

I’m so excited to finally share a project that has been going on for months, the rebrand of my entire business! In just the short amount of time I’ve been in business, there have been a lot of changes, and I know there will continue to be changes, and that’s exactly why I needed to create a brand for my business that stood a chance at sustaining growth and change.

So What’s New?

Obviously, the name! I’ve changed my name from Caitlin Shepard: Photo & Design to Caitlin Shepard+. I wanted things to be simplified, and I also wanted something that wasn’t solely photography or design, but it could be whatever I really wanted it to be as time goes on. I think sometimes we can tie our identity to our vocation, and I think we were called to be so much more than that! It’s my goal moving forward to show more of my personality and my normal day-to-day to my followers. I’m about to embark on a new chapter of life and I want to include all of the people who have been with my business from day one to come along for the ride!

I’ve also enlisted some help. I swallowed the pill and came to terms with the fact that I am not the best at everything and I threw away the worn out idea that if I wanted something done right I needed to do it myself. Instead, I’ve extended my table instead of building a higher fence, and I have, indeed, added seats to the table! I’m so happy to share that I now have a team which includes assistants, editors, and a writer! I am also super excited to share that I now have a partnership with an awesome graphic designer, Mandy Reno!

The Rebrand Process

I began daydreaming about my rebrand about a year ago, it didn’t take me long to figure out what I wanted to keep about my current branding and what I wanted to change, but that’s where things started to become difficult. Being a designer by degree, I have learned that we all are our own worst client. I figured out when I did my last brand identity for myself the worst thing I did for myself was ask for hardly any feedback or ask for any help or direction. I knew I needed some professional help and I also knew that I did not have the time to do this project justice, which brings me back to Mandy.

Mandy was one of my classmates at Pittsburg State University and is an incredibly gifted and passionate graphic designer. Our paths didn’t cross too much while we were in school, but I always admired her talents and work ethic. I even remember during our senior project class I thought about how it would be cool to work with Mandy in a professional atmosphere one day, but that was a thought I kept to myself. Fast forward about a year and a half later and we crossed paths at a wedding I was working. The next day Mandy sent me a text telling me how much she admired my work ethic and business growth and that she thought it would be cool if we could somehow work together someday. I could hardly believe it! I was honestly so flattered. I knew my business was getting to a place where I needed to enlist some help, and I had the perfect place for her in my business.

Before, my brand name was Caitlin Shepard: Photo + Design. I had a section of my business that was dedicated to design projects, which were particularly stationary pieces for my brides and senior clients. I was getting to an awesome, yet uncomfortable place where I had so many clients for photography that I just couldn’t keep up with all my design requests. Which leads me back to Mandy and how pumped I am to formally announce my partnership with Mandy Reno Creative! Mandy is so passionate about design and incredibly talented; I cannot think of a better person to pair up with so that photography and design needs can be met in one place!

I also decided that there would be no better way to integrate Mandy’s business and mine than if she played a major role in the rebrand, so I asked her to take on the project of redesigning everything in my business. I can’t even begin to tell you how great it was to have another creative mind to bounce ideas off of. She created something I absolutely love and took such care in listening and implementing all of my wants, needs, and desires. She is an absolute rockstar when it comes to layout and design and I could not recommend her more.

But Wait, There’s More!

I’m also really excited to have some other talented people helping me along the way! LeAnn Wood is an amazing writer, editor, and blogger, so I am absolutely THRILLED to pieces to have someone who can help me move my blog and words in the direction I want them to go. There’s so much power in what you say and I’m thankful I have some help in refining my initial thoughts. She’s already been an incredible asset and I am so excited to see where her own writings take her.

Nicholas Simpson is another friend from university and I’m always so happy to have his perspective, expertise, and assistance when photographing weddings. Having a reliable second photographer can be so essential to photographing weddings and I’m glad I have found another artist who is dedicated to learning the process and growing in his own talent sphere as well!

My two editors are currently college students; one is my sweet friend Tara Blagg and the other is my younger sister, Cristin Shepard! I’m super thankful these two were interested in stepping up and helping me with my workload.

More On the Way

While it’s true there is still more going on behind the scenes than what I shared with you today, I figured introducing things one at a time would be better than a huge flood of new information. I’m really excited about the direction my business is going in, and I hope you are too! I can’t wait to share more of what’s to come with you, and I hope you’ll be right there with me throughout the journey!

xoxo,

Caitlin
